Abstract |
The Irish-based Congregation of the Presentation Brothers, a Catholic teaching order, came to Montreal in 1910 at the invitation of Canon William O'Meara and municipal Alderman Dan Gallery. Their first school was Chauveau School, renamed St. Gabriel's (and later renamed Canon O'Meara Academy), located on Laprairie Street in Point Saint Charles. They also taught in other Montreal area schools, including Montreal Catholic High School, Luke Callaghan Memorial School (formerly St. Michael's), St. Aloysius Elementary School, Verdun Catholic High School, Daniel O'Connell High School, St. Augustine's Elementary School, and St. Willibrord's High School, as well as at St. Patrick's Academy in Sherbrooke and the Presentation High School in Montebello. This religious order taught in English Quebec (Irish) Catholic schools for ninety-one years.
