Abstract |
The "Trafalgar Institute" was founded in 1871 by Montreal merchant Donald Ross (1811-1877) who believed that (Protestant) girls should have the same educational opportunities as boys. Ross bequeathed the bulk of his estate for the establishment of the first English language girls' school in Montreal. With additional financial assistance from Sir Donald Smith (Lord Strathcona), the school opened its doors in 1887.
