The Black Stone Monument, un lieu à la mémoire d'une tragique épopée
|
Abstract |
The Irish Commemorative Stone, commonly referred to as the Black Rock, now located at the entrance to Montreal's Victoria Bridge, was erected in 1859 by the Irish workers building the Victoria Bridge to mark the nearby mass graves where thousands of Irish famine immigrants who died of typhus in 1847 on the shores of Montreal were laid to rest. The author outlines archaeological work undertaken in the area.
