Traces de savoirs et de collections historiques : quelques réflexions autour de l’Inventaire des imprimés anciens au Québec à la bibliothèque universitaire de McGill
|
Abstract |
In this look at the work done by the "Inventaire des imprimés anciens au Québec" (IMAQ) at the McGill University Library between 2010 and 2014, the author explains that the diverse printed works that were processed are now presented in the context of progressively revealed hidden collections. She notes that considering these works from the perspective of an archaeological approach to collection history underscores the diachronic strata of past collections within the current collection. The author maintains that individual volumes are considered reflective of past states of knowledge. She argues that her essay is a call to approach historic imprints from the perspective of the collections that they are, and have been a part of, so as to reveal their continually evolving significance.
