Title
From Bill 22 to Bill 101: The Politics of Language Under the Parti Québécois
Abstract
An examination of the differences between the language policies of the Liberal Party of Quebec and the Parti Québécois as they were presented in the mid-1970s. The author argues that the Parti Québécois' Bill 101, the Charter of the French Language, enacted in 1977, followed the legislative path of the Liberal Party of Quebec's Bill 22, the Official Language Act, enacted in 1974. He claims that Bill 101 amplified Bill 22's provisions with regards to public administration and education, but undertook rare and secondary changes to the business world.
