In Eight years in Canada (1847) and its sequel, The guards in Canada; or, the point of honor (1848), the author provides a contemporary account of events under the administrations of Governors Lord Durham, Lord Sydenham, Sir Charles Bagot, and Sir Charles Theophilus Metcalfe.
