| Abstract |
Signing this missive "A Quebec Loyalist," Robert Sellar (1841-1919), editor of the Huntingdon-based newspaper, The Gleaner, wrote this pamphlet outlining his thesis that Protestant farmers were being deliberately squeezed out of Quebec by the Roman Catholic parish, school, and tithe system which, on township soil, functioned in violation of early imperial statutes. Sellar accused Quebec's Premier. Honoré Mercier, of plotting to erect a theocratic French Catholic state, to the detriment of Protestant Quebecers.
