Abstract
The Boys' Home of Montreal, founded in 1870, adopted a program to produce "useful citizens" of neglected and delinquent boys by combining work, education, discipline and religion. The author outlines how the first director of this institution, Charles Alexander, implemented this program between the founding of the Boys' Home and Alexander's death in 1905 and a new generation of administrators that took over in 1908.
