Chinese Graduate Students in Canadian Universities: A Study of the Influence of Culture, Language and Communication Skills on Their Educational Adjustment
|
Abstract |
Focusing on Chinese graduate students at Montreal's McGill University and Concordia University, the author examines teacher effectiveness, and the influence of language proficiency and communication apprehension on inhibition in using English and chosing course preferences by the students. The author found that students with limited English language proficiency and/or high communication apprehension were more inhibited in using English and avoided discussion-oriented classes.
