Impact of Social Change on Job Values: A Longitudinal Study of Quebec Business Students
|
Abstract |
The author reports on the results of a longitudinal cross-cultural study carried out during the years 1972, 1978 and 1986 on job-related perceptions and motivations of business students in a French and an English university in Quebec. The major research objective was to investigate how the achievement motivation of the French Canadian students, the characteristics they look for in their employment and their general perceptions of attributes of business enterprises, have been affected by the changes in Quebec society. A related objective was to compare the value systems of French and English-speaking business students. The results indicate that, compared to the year 1972, French students' aspirations were higher and their attitude towards private sector business had become much more favorable in 1986.
