| Abstract |
Novelist and religious philosopher Lily Dougall (1858-1923) was the daughter of Montreal Witness editor John Dougall. Born in Montreal, Lily Dougall was educated in New York and Scotland. She returned to Montreal and lived in the city from 1897 to 1903, when she moved to England and spent the rest of her life there. She was the author of eleven novels (one published under a male pseudonym), one volume of short stories and eight books of religious philosophy. Four of her novels are set in Canada, including What Necessity Knows (London 1893), set in the Eastern Townships.
