Title
The Textual Presence of the Translator: A Comparative Analysis of F.R. Scott’s and John Glassco’s Translations of Saint-Denys Garneau
Abstract
The author studies and compares the translations by English Montrealers Frank Scott (1899-1985) and John Glassco (1909-1981) of the work of Quebec poet Hector de Saint-Denys Garneau (1912-1943). He contends that considering the stature of poet Saint-Denys Garneau, the translations by Scott and Glassco, both also poets, are culturally significant events, whose analysis offers a better opportunity to understand the relations between Francophones and Anglophones.
