The English Language As Used In Quebec: A Survey
|
Abstract |
The influence of the French language on English spoken in Quebec. When the author, a Scottish-born linguist and educator, became Associate Professor of English at the Université du Québec, he was surprised to discover the extent to which the English language of bilingual Anglophones in Quebec was influenced by French. In this study of Quebec English, the author records many of its lexical peculiarities and surveys the attitudes of Anglophone respondents toward gallicisms in their speech.
