Abstract
A brief account of the role played by George Jehoshaphat Mountain (1789-1863) in the development of McGill University. For close to twelve years (1824-1835) Mountain was Principal of the university. Later he became president of the Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning, the body which oversaw the running of McGill.
