Abstract |
Yiddish, once the predominant daily language of Canadian Jewry, was in decline in the 1980s when this article was written. The author contends that the language is becoming a sort of "classic" language for Jewish scholars and will remain a living vernacular only among the Hasidic communities in Montreal and Toronto.
