Abstract |
The British-born John Mockett Cramp (1796-1881) was president of the Baptist College of Montreal from 1844 to 1849, appointed to that position by the Baptist Colonial Missionary Society in London. Cramp was a leader of the exodus of some 40 members from the First Baptist Church in Montreal in 1847, and helped form an Open Communion Church. Cramp returned to the First Baptist Church on June 2, 1849, and became pastor of this church from May to Nov 1850. He left the Montreal church again on July 25, 1851, and moved to Nova Scotia to assume the Presidency of Acadia College.
