A.J.M. Smith : A Personal Memoir
Abstract
Poet Arthur James Marshall Smith (1902-1980) was a member of the "Montreal Group" of Modernist poets in the 1920s, sometimes also referred to as the "McGill Poets", along with Leon Edel, Leo Kennedy, A. M. Klein, and F. R. Scott. The author recounts how he first met Smith in 1925 as students at McGill University and Smith's influence on his poetic development. Together they founded The McGill Fortnightly Review, a periodical that ushered in the modernist poetry movement in Canada.
