Abstract |
Born on the island of Guernsey, Martin Sheppard (1801-1884) immigrated to Quebec City in 1818. In 1820, he was engaged as a clerk in the notary office of Lachlan T. McPherson, and received his commission as a notary in 1825. That year Sheppard moved to Gaspé, practicing his profession in Papébiac (1825-1827), Bonaventure (1827-1829), and finally in New Carlise (1830-1879). Sheppard was the only notary on the Gaspé Coast until 1850.
