Abstract
Montrealer William George Beers (1841-1900) published a brochure in 1860 that laid down basic rules and regulations for modern lacrosse. In 1869, he published the book Lacrosse: The National Game of Canada which outlined the historical background of the game, repeated its rules outlined in the earlier brochure, and reflected on the theory and strategy of play in various field positions. Montreal was the hub of organized lacrosse activity in Canada between 1844 and 1866.
