Abstract |
The catalogue for a memorial exhibition for Montreal artist Prudence Heward (1896-1947), held at the National Gallery of Canada. Heward and the author were members of the Beaver Hall Group of painters, formed in Montreal in May 1920 by artists who had met while studying art at a school run by Art Association of Montreal. Heward's body of work was dominated by portraits of women and influenced by the new ideas and aesthetic methods which established modern ways of thinking and producing art in the early twentieth century.
