Title
Historical Consciousness and the 'French-English' Divide Among Quebec History Teachers
Abstract
A study conducted by the author on inter-group attitudes and mutual in-class treatment between Francophone and Anglophone history teachers in Montreal when teaching the "History of Quebec and Canada" course at the Secondary IV level. The author found that most Francophone respondents displayed an indifference to the social realities and historical experiences of Quebec Anglophones, but that all the Anglophone respondents demonstrated a sense of empathy towards the former. He concludes that teachers "historicize" the French-English conflict in Quebec's past.
