Jewish Public Library Archives: Relevant Resources of the 1960s
|
Abstract |
The author points out that Montreal’s Jewish community lived a very particular experience of the 1960s, as evidenced by the collections held at the city's Jewish Public Library Archives. The author focuses on three particular events affecting the community, whose records are held by the library: the emergency campaign for Israel organized by the Federation CJA (Combined Jewish Appeal) following the outbreak of the Six-Day Arab-Israeli War in June 1967; the Save Soviet Jewry campaign; and the welcoming to Montreal of thousands of Sephardic immigrants from North Africa and the Middle East.
