Will They Go? A Study of Intentions Regarding Migration Among Secondary V Students in Quebec
|
| Abstract |
In 1987, a survey was conducted of 1,295 Secondary V students in Anglophone high schools in Quebec. A comparison group of 501 Francophone high school students was also surveyed. The survey was intended to provide an indication of whether the differential between English- and French-speaker representation in interprovincial migration from Quebec was likely to continue. The survey found a substantial differential between English-speaking and French-speaking students regarding out migration intentions. Even rising levels of bilingualism among English-speaking adolescents did not appear to have obviated their greater intention for migration out of the province.
