|
| Abstract |
The author examines the circumstance under which the right of self-government was acquired by the Province of Canada, between 1839 when Lord Durham presented his report recommending "responsible government:" and the passing of the Rebellion Losses Bill in 1849 whose sanction by Governor General Lord Elgin indicates the final and complete adoption of this principle.
