From Vitality to Vitality of Memory : Conceptual Foundations of the Role of Memory and Heritage in the Vitality of Official Language Minority Communities
|
Abstract |
Under the Official Languages Act (OLA), Library and Archives Canada (LAC), like all other Government of Canada memory institutions, must “enhance the vitality of the English and French linguistic minority communities in Canada and support . . . their development.” The question is to define how history and heritage, including documentary heritage, can contribute to the vitality of official language minority communities (OLMCs). The author proposes a four-step approach to answer this question.
