'When I was your age': Bearing Witness in Holocaust Education in Montreal
|
Abstract |
Post-war Montreal became home to the third-largest community of Holocaust survivors in the world. The authors contend that there has been an enormous public attention to Holocaust survivor testimony and less to the educational activism of these survivors. They argue that little time has been spent exploring survivors' post-war lives and the central role that many have played in Holocaust education. They conclude that the reasons that these survivors bear witness and how their stories touch and inform those who listen to them become just as significant as what is said. The authors are part of the Montreal Life Stories project; many of the survivors who participate in educational activitism are members of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre, created in 1979.
