Abstract |
The Montreal-born Melvin Charney (1935-2012) was an artist and architect. At a young age, he took Saturday classes at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and later studied architecture at McGill University and Yale University. He worked in Paris and New York before returning to Montreal in 1964, where he opened his architecture practice and began teaching at the Université de Montréal. He later shifted away from building design to public art. His public art works include the sculpture garden at Montreal's Canadian Centre for Architecture and the sculpture titled "Skyscraper, Waterfall, Brooks — A Construction" at Place Émilie-Gamelin. This book is a catalogue that accompanied a photographic exhibition of his work at the Musée d'art contemporain.
