Abstract
A comprehensive examination of the language and school controversy of the 1960s and 1970s in Saint-Leonard, written mainly from the vantage of the impact on Montreal's Italian community. The authors describe the social and political philosophies of the three organizations that spoke for the city's Italian community during this period: Consiglio Educativo Italo-Canadese; Canadian Italian Professional and Businessmen's Association; and Fédération des associations italiennes du Québec.
