Richard Pennington, University of Queensland's First James Forsyth Librarian, 1939–1946
Abstract
Richard Pennington was born in Rugby, England, in 1904. He received his B.A. from the University of Birmingham in 1924 and a Library Diploma from the University of London in 1932. Pennington had a varied career: he was an author, librarian, a bibliographer and an amateur printer. He was the Head Librarian of the University of Queensland in Australia (1939-46) and a University Librarian at McGill University (1947-64). When he retired from McGill in 1964, he moved to France and founded a private press, the Presse de l'Apricotier abattu. The author includes information on Pennington's tenure at McGill.
