Abstract |
Originally named the Protestant Hospital for the Insane, the name was changed to the Verdun Protestant Hospital in 1924, and the Douglas Hospital in 1965. In 2006 it was renamed the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. The hospital was founded in 1881 by Alfred Perry and a group of Protestant clergy and prominent Montreal citizens.
