Abstract |
The "End of an Era" was an exhibition and symposium at the McCord Museum in 1977 on the transformation the traditional Quebec way of life at the turn of the twentieth century and the artistic changes in Montreal during this period. Three authors contributed to the exhibition's catalogue: François-Marc Gagnon wrote about four distinct prevailing styles (Art-Nouveau, Neo-Classical, Gothic and Arts and Crafts); John Bland wrote about changes in architecture and design influences from Great Britain and especially the United States; and Elizabeth Collard wrote about Decorative Art, illustrating how the cult of the oriental was still firmly entrenched in Montreal at the turn of the century but that new movements were being made known through exhibits at William Scott and Son's gallery.
