Government Response to the Report of the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages: The Vitality of Quebec's English-Speaking Communities: From Myth to Reality March 2012

Abstract |
In the winter of 2009 the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages undertook a study on Quebec's English-speaking communities. Following the study, the Committee's report, The Vitality of Quebec's English-Speaking Communities: From Myth to Reality, was passed by the Senate, first in March 2011 and again on October 18, 2011. The report was a comprehensive portrait of the English Quebec communities based on supporting data and testimony on the challenges English speakers face in Quebec. The Minister of Canadian Heritage responded to the Senate report on behalf of his government. The government's response was grouped under four headings: Better understanding of the issues facing English Speakers in Quebec; Support and guidance to federal institutions; Communication with community organizations; and Cooperation with the Government of Quebec.
