Abstract |
An archaeological survey of site BjFj–135 in Montreal's east end uncovered a large number of artifacts associated with tobacco pipe production in the city in the mid-nineteenth century, and the contribution of this family of Scottish immigrants to the country's pipe-making industry. The site is located on De Lorimier Avenue and Sainte-Catherine Street, under the Jacques Cartier Bridge. A clay tobacco pipe factory was run by the Henderson family from 1847 until 1876, when it was acquired by another pipe maker, W.H. Dixon, who remained in business until 1892.
