Catholiques et protestants à Waterloo, Qué., 1860-1920 : les relations complexes dans une période de changements de majorité
|
Abstract |
The authors trace the major developments of Catholic-Protestant relations in the Eastern Townships town of Waterloo from 1860 to 1920, when the community grew, industrialized and changed from a majority Anglophone Protestant population to a majority Francophone Catholic population. They contend that, despite a few instances of cooperation in the economic sector, the Francophone Catholics feared the Anglophone Protestants throughout the period studied. The Anglophone Protestants apparently maintained an unshakable indifference toward the Catholics.
