Title
Tuberculose, foyers et familles : les soins à domicile des tuberculeux à Montréal, 1900-1950
Abstract
At the turn of the twentieth century, tuberculosis was a scourge that affected many Montrealers. The disease was particularly severe among the city's poorest citizens. The author profiles the different care of tuberculosis patients in Montreal between 1900 and 1950, and analyses the experiences of families and the health care system established within Montreal's Protestant, Catholic and Jewish communities. By analyzing such sources as the Royal Edward Institute, the Institut Bruchési, the Baron de Hirsch Institute and the Herzl Dispensary and Montreal school boards, the author examines how those suffering from the disease from each community were treated, what preventive methods were used by doctors and officials, and what actions were undertaken that specifically targeted children.
