Abstract
William Wakeham (1855-1915), a medical doctor by training, was appointed inspector of Canadian fisheries in the Gulf of St Lawrence and Labrador by the federal government in 1879. He worked on several assignments for the federal government until the early 1900s, when he returned to Gaspé and moved into One Ash, a comfortable residence he had fitted out since 1880.
