Abstract |
The author, Francis Maseres (1731-1824), had been Attorney-General of Quebec from 1766 to 1769. Of a Huguenot family background, Maseres held an anti-Catholic prejudice but appears to have been able to "tolerate" Catholicism in Quebec in the short term while encouraging French Canadians to convert to Protestantism.
