An Outline of Canadian Literature

Abstract |
The author describes his book as “the first attempt at a history of our literature, placing both French and English authors side by side.” He further notes that his book has the “advantage of tracing the constitutional development of Canada and linking this up with a parallel movement in art and letters, thus preparing a fitting background for the study of our writers.” The book contains chapters on (along with writers’ biographies): novelists; poets, dramatists; essays and Belle Lettres; religious and devotional literature; humourists; nature writers; journalism; biography; travel and exploration; and history.
