| Abstract |
A history of a Montreal South Shore suburb, on the Richelieu River. Otterburn Park was once a popular summertime destination for Grand Trunk Railroad employees. The early residential growth of Otterburn Park goes back to 1912, when Ernest J. Spiller and David Mason, real estate entrepreneurs from Montreal, bought and subdivided land in Otterburn Park for cottages. Their first lots were sold to English-speaking Grand Trunk Railway employees from the Pointe-Saint-Charles railyards. Otterburn Park had a majority English-speaking population until 1971. By 2006, English speakers made up less that seven percent of the population.
