Abstract |
A history of printing in Quebec City, and the economic partnerships between generations of the Desbarats family and Anglophone printers/publishers in the period under review. The first Desbarats to become involved in printing/publishing was Pierre-Edouard Desbarats (1764-1828), followed by his son George-Paschal Desbarats (1808-1864), grandson George-Édouard (George Edward) Desbarats (1838-1893), and great grandson William-Amable Desbarats. Several of Pierre-Edouard's children married English Quebecers, and the family soon became anglicised.
