Abstract |
A paper mill was first built in the early 1820s at Stanstead/Rock Island by Silas H. Dickerson to supply the needs of his weekly newspaper, The British Colonist. It was taken over by three brothers, John, Samuel and Stephen Reed, in the 1830s, but appears to have gone out of business by 1850.
