Abstract |
The Montreal-born Rosanna Eleanor Leprohon (1829-1879), née Mullins, shifted her literary focus after her 1851 marriage to French Canadian Dr. J.I. Leprohon from novels of manners set in England to historical romances about Quebec society. Her best known works are The Manor House of de Villerai (1859-60) and Antoinette de Mirecourt (1864). The former is set in New France during the Seven Years War, and the latter is set in Montreal just after that war. She was praised during her life for having done "more almost than any other Canadian writer to foster and promote the growth of a national Literature."
