Abstract |
An account of the three political "parties" striving to retain or obtain power in Lower Canada in the 1830s before the outbreak of the rebellion. According to the author, the English Tory party was struggling for full constitutional liberty, while the English "constitutional party" - which he claims was more radical that the French Patriote party - was aiming at instituting a republican form of government.
