Recent Trends in Highrise Multiple House with Special Reference to the Rockhill Apartments, Montreal
|
Abstract |
The author notes that there are various types of ownership, financing, forms, functions and facilities of high-rise multiple housing. There exist arguments regarding the maximum height, and suitability of high-rise living. The author examines Montreal’s RochHill Towers, which he asserts reflects some aspects of contemporary trends (built between 1966 and 1968) in high-rise apartment design. The RockHill Towers are located on chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, a short distance south of Queen Mary Road. The towers were designed by Menkes and Webb. The author contends that the RockHill Towers presented a challenge to the fast suburban sprawl of North American cities.
