Abstract |
The English-speaking Black population in Quebec is an urban population. The authors point out that 98.5 percent of English-speaking Black Quebecers live in a Census Metropolitan Area, and 91.7 percent of this population live in Montreal. The English-speaking Black community makes up 1.31 percent of the total Montreal population, and 0.94 percent of the Outaouais population, 0.1 percent of the Sherbrooke population, 0.06 of the Trois-Rivieres population, 0.06 percent of the Quebec City population, and 0.03 percent of the Saguenay population. Just over half of Quebec's English-speaking
Black population (52.36 percent) is a first generation immigrant, 36.88 percent is a second generation immigrant, and 10.76 percent is a third generation immigrant. The authors found that 66.56 percent of the English-speaking non-Black population in Quebec have knowledge of both official languages, followed by 59.35 percent of the English-speaking Black population. The province's French-speaking Black and non-Black populations have similar rates of knowledge of both official languages, at 41.98 percent and 41.43 percent respectively.
