| Abstract |
James Carmichael (1838-1908) was the fourth Anglican Bishop of Montreal, serving from 1906 to 1908. Educated at Bishop's University, in Montreal he served at St George’s Church before he was appointed Dean of Montreal in 1883. In 1906 he became Co-adjuter to the third Bishop of Montreal, William Bennett Bond, whom he eventually succeeded. His obituary in The Times described Carmichael as a "painstaking administrator rather than a brilliant leader".
