The author focusses on the evolution of pedagogical goals, teachers' motivation and job satisfaction, teaching and evaluation techniques, students' motivation and goals, and on the problems which arise from the conflicting interests and goals of the major actors both within the institutional context and beyond (teachers, teachers' unions, students, school administrators, and government policy planners).
