Title
Legal Person and Asset Management Strategy : William Clendinneng and the Canada Pipe and Foundry Company
Abstract
The author examines the use of various corporate forms to manage the ownership of the nineteenth-century William Clendinneng foundry in Montreal. Using bankruptcy records and published accounts, the author draws a fuller picture of a major Montreal employer (180 workers) and of its owners' attempts to keep control over the foundry as it was forced into bankruptcy in 1895 in the wake of the collapse of the Banque du Peuple.
