|
Abstract |
The author, the Director of the Jardins de Métis at Métis-sur-Mer, Quebec, and great-grandson of the garden's creator, Elsie Reford (1872-1967), describes the transformation of the horticultural masterpiece from the private sanctuary of the Reford family from 1926 to 1958 that was acquired by the Government of Quebec in 1961, and then sold in 1995 to the Friends of the Jardins de Métis, a non-profit organization formed by members of the Reford family and Ateliers Plein Soleil of Mont-Joli. Today, the Jardins de Métis is an international tourist destination for botanical enthusiasts.
