La figure de l'Irlandais au Québec : perspectives historiques et littéraires (1815-1922)
|
Abstract |
The author explores the history of Irish immigration and integration in Quebec, and the singular experiences of both French Canadians and Irish Catholics in a shared social space. Examining literary references, he argues that the evolving relationship between French Canadians and Irish Catholics over the period 1815 to 1922 evolved from an initial desire by French Canadian writers for an idealistic and utopian "connexion" with Irish immigrants (1815 to 1844) to a more conflicted relationship between the two groups between 1845 and 1922.
